My name is Tyriq Johnson, and I am a photographer who is passionate about capturing meaningful moments. Whether it is sports, portraits, or special events, I enjoy documenting moments that tell a story and allow people to relive experiences that matter to them.

I first started photography by going to any games I could attend and trying to get as close to the action as possible. Sometimes that meant shooting from the stands, other times it meant finding different angles from higher or lower levels. No matter where I was, I was always focused on capturing the moment.

Before photography, sports were a huge part of my life. I played football, basketball, a little soccer, and ran track and field. Sports always felt like where I belonged. When I realized I could not continue my own athletic career, I found another way to stay connected to the game by documenting it. Instead of playing professionally or semi-professionally, I chose to capture the moments of athletes who were living those experiences.

What I love most about photography is that even a small moment can become something meaningful. A simple photo of someone making a layup or celebrating with their team can become a memory that lasts forever. Photos give people a way to remember moments that might otherwise pass by quickly.

As I continued photographing at the collegiate level, my perspective on sports grew even deeper. Seeing student athletes balance classes, training, and competition showed me how much dedication and passion goes into what they do. Many of them are not playing for money. They are playing because they truly love the game. Seeing that level of commitment motivates me to keep improving not only as a photographer but also as a person.

Photography allows me to preserve moments that matter. I also enjoy learning from other photographers and seeing how they view players, fans, organizations, and the game itself. Observing different perspectives helps me grow and pushes me to continue developing my own creative approach.

For me, photography is about more than just taking pictures. It is about capturing moments that people can look back on and remember for the rest of their lives.
